MORPHOLOGY

SIZES
Shrubby. Middleweigh.

LEAF
Perennial and leathery, oval shaped from 7 to 10 cm. With big white flowers (orange blossom).

BARK
Smooth. Single cylindrical trunk, horizon blue colour in young examples, that become greyish with passage of years.

ROOTHS
Not so aggressive.

FRUIT/SEED
Seeds are inside the fruit (citruses: orange, lemon, mandarin, etc.).

LAND REQUIREMENT
Gran tolerancia a amplitud de suelos.

CLIMATE
Big resistaint to various classes of soils: Mediterranean. It doesn’t resist to temperatures lower than 0ºC, excepting some typical types.

USES

Citruses are a good option for:

  • Fruit plant of middle size for gardens in temperate climate areas.
  • Gardens where very intense natural fragrances are required.

LOGISTIC AND MAINTENANCE

  • Excess of humidity in the soil doesn’t help it.
  • It tolerates very well Mediterranean climate drynes.
  • It well put up with drastic pruning.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Abstain from cold areas.
  • It benefit from preventive treatment in copper base, to ward fungal attack off.

CURIOSITIES

  • The exciting smell of orange blossom is very appreciated in Arabic countries and used as base for parfumes.
  • Zest in boiling water with a shugar tea-spoon is an excellent digestive and relaxant.
  • In a well-balanced diet fruits of citric trees generate a big quantity of vitamine C.
