MORPHOLOGY

SIZES
Cane reach between 6 and 8 m high.

LEAF
Perennial. Light green colour leaves of 15 cm large and 2 cm wide.

ROOTS
Connected by root stock that join a canes between themselves.

FRUITS/SEEDS
It doesn’t produce fruits nor seeds.

LAND REQUIREMENT
In humid and sandy soil it has a grate spreading capacity, even if it has not to be considerated a demandig species.

CLIMATE
Low temperature -20ºC resistance, according to cold endurance.

USES

Vegetable walls, groups, bamboo forests.

LOGISTIC AND MAINTENANCE

  • Very tolerant to handling.
  • When is a group of big size it has to be held by the crown and put toghether with others without close tightly. To protect them it is necessary to tie canes together with a cord at spiral.
  • In reality it can be considered a plant with no deseases. It doesn’t need phytosanitary treatment and is fertilizer greedy.

PRECAUTIONS

It is necessary to sideways isolate (40 cm) with a non porous material (plastic, pvc, etc) the area we want to destinate to the bamboo, On the contrary it spreads and escape in other areas.

CURIOSITIES

  • Phyllostachys has therapeutic attributes. It is used also in cosmetic industry.
  • Used as human and animal food.
  • The Giant Panda that lives in centre-meridional China, between 1800 and 3000 meters of altitude, nourish of its leaves.
